INdesit W1a 101 washing machine - mind of its own

I have come accross an Indesit W1A 101 washing machine that you can't stop. Once started, it will not respond to the dial being turned to the off position. According to the instructions, it should stop and let you re-programme it. It is computer controlled.

Or is this normal ?
