Indesit wg820

I have an Indesit wg820 washer - although it sounds like its working when a programme starts, the motor doesnt turn at all. I presume the washing-machine-like noise it makes is the water pump. I have checked the belt, its OK.

Also, the door doesnt lock - would this cause the motor to not spin? Or, is it the other way round, i.e. the door doesnt lock because the motor is not spinning?

Check the carbons in the motor. These machines do all sort of wierd things when the carbons are worn.
