We have recently moved into a mid 70's build terrace house and have a question about a vent we have in wall of the lounge. We have a plastic vent on the wall about a foot off the floor that has pretty much been painted over by the previous owners (it measures 270x170mm) I've taken the vent off and it doesn't vent straight through the cavity to the outside.
There is a vent on the outside of the house which is about 4 metres away along the wall. Meaning the distance between in vent and out vent is 4 metres.
The house originally had a gas fire in the chimney which was removed at some point (we have a Dimplex electric fire in there now which is just for show)
My question is whether this vent was there for the gas fire or whether its a standard thing for Cavity walls? It seems wierd that the in and out vents are separated but what do i know.
We've been offered free Cavity Wall insulation by the local council, am i right in thinking that these vents would be blocked off by it and is it something to worry about?
Thanks!
