We have a Fagor Innova induction hob which has not given us any problems since new.

Yesterday, however, one of the hot plates suddenly took a mind of it's own and refused to switch off.
It had been used and then turned off, which was fine, but then it came back on again and would not switch off unless the hob was turned off at the mains.

Would anyone know whether this is likely to be a problem with the plate itself (which has a small block at the end of (what I assume) is the thermostat located above the heating element), or is it more likely to be a component on the circuit board containing all the controls.

Not a problem with the heating element. Almost 99% certain a problem with the control module PCB.

If the control is a rotary knob then probably liquid has run down the spindle and shorted out tracks on the PCB.

I might be wrong but that heating element looks like one that glows red hot to heat the pan and not one that inducts energy into the base of the pan to heat the pan.

Thanks Bernard.

It is a wire element set in a ceramic (type) round block.

The controls are 'touch' controls under the glass - finger over the right spot on the glass controls the elements temp and the on/off/lock facility.

So it sounds like it may be one of the components on the PCB may have failed??!!

It's not an induction unit it's ceramic, I agree with Bernard it's more likely to be a control issue.
See if you can find the configuration procedure and if that doesn't work probably the touch control.
