my girlfriend has bought a second hand flatbed sewing machine,when we picked it up they had dismantled it and disconnected the motor,but not noted the connection of the mains lead.
it has 6 connections on the motor.

in this order
blue lead to u1 -------- w2 blue lead
white lead to v1-------- u2 brown lead
red lead on w1--------- v2 white lead

a capacitor, blue lead on w2 and brown lead on u2

where do i reconnect the live and neutral, thanks

it's an industrial sewing machine so i assume it's was 3 phase( how do i tell if it's 3 phase or not),but it's been used for years as domsetic machine with a 3 pin plug attached,
it's a brother db2-b714-3

u1 to w2 linked
v1 to u2 linked
w1 to v2 linked
so which do i connect the live and neutral to

there are no identety plates or diagrams on the moter

just found a wiring diagram that shows the cap connected to the right connections.it shows live going to u1 and neutral to w1. but on my motor i have noticed that the nuts on w1 and v1 are only finger tight which points to the ones that were undone but the u1 which should take the live is solid.help

what does the rating plate on the motor say (it may be better to post a pic of the plate)

If it is a 3phase motor converted to single phase
N = u2/v1 connection or u1/w2 connection
L = v2/w1 connection
(or vice versa, it doesn't matter )

thanks a lot matte that seems to work ok
,there are no plates on the motor.
