I have some decking LEDs that run off an inside transformer. I have an outside electrical outlet that will allow me to plug them in, with the transformer place in a weather proof box sited onto the wall. Is this acceptable?

Yes, as long as you can guarantee that you'll never get condensation in the box, and that the temperature in it will never go outside the working range of the transformer.
