I am trying to install new window treatment hardware (brackets and curtain rod) but there are too many holes in the wall from previous window treatments right in the *perfect* spot for the new brackets. The screws don't stay put, they come loose. Am I going to have to cut out patches of the drywall & replace it where I want to install the brackets? or is there an easier solution? Help!!

( Please don't tell me to just find another spot to screw the hardware into. This window is about 4 inches from the perpendicular wall so it doesn't leave me much room to work with. )

You could secure a piece of wood onto the drywall using appropriate fixings, and then attach the pole to the wood.

Or use resin to glue in some studs, then screw nuts onto those.

That way you have the opportunity to fasten the batten to the studs rather than weedy plasterboard. :D
