Installing Kitchen Splashback Panels

I'm thinking of updating a kitchen by covering the existing wall tiles with acrylic splashback panels, such as those sold in Ikea. Can anyone please advise me how to make the joins between the panels, whether it's the butt edges on straight runs, or internal & external corners? In particular, the existing tiles go about a quarter of the way up a window and into the reveal. Would this be suitable for over-covering & what would be the best/correct way to finish the external corners?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You need to remove the tiles, and splash-backs come in long lengths [3-4mtrs] so butt joins are not required.Ikea splash backs are only intended for behind cooker etc unless they have started selling full sheets.

How about making your own, then you don't need to worry about the joins

This is one I made from a 3M sheet of acrylic, bought from http://www.acrylic-online.co.uk/

It cost about £130 delivered, which seems expensive for a sheet of plastic, but was a grand cheaper than the glass alternative!

I made up a template from cardboard, taped it to the perspex, and cut it with a slow jigsaw, then stuck it on the wall with clear silicone.

Not ideal as plastic scratches easily and anything hot against it will damage you will need to be very careful.

That's actually a fair comment. As you can see from the pics, the hob is in the foreground and the oven is off to the left.
So, I think this works well for our layout but it definitely would not work if any of the hot stuff was near the splashback.

If you are literally looking for just a "splashback" then it's an option.

Thanks for your responses so far, but no-one has addressed my main question - how to finish external corners.

Splashback edges are pre-finished.
