Hi.
Its time to insulate the loft space in my newly built extension.
The ceiling joists are 170mm so was planning to use 2 layers of insulation.

If I put the plasterboard up first, it would be difficult, but not impossible to install the insulation due to there being not much height up there.

Is there a tecnique to get the insulation up and between the ceiling joists and then fit the boards.

Thanks.

Andy.

If you are looking to achieve a U value of 0.16, then providing all first fix trades are complete, roll 100mm Rockwall across the joists, and then fit 170mm Rockwall between the joists. Total thickness 270mm, U value 0.16.
Not talking that cr*p fibre glass from Wickes or BQ, but talking Rockwall
If you want to go Celotex route 200mm XR4000 between joist gives 0.16
Then fix board.

Lousy, itchy, coughy, stinking job!

Fit some of the boards then insulate whilst there is still daylight entering the space.

We sometimes make wedges out of plasterboard pices that are wedged in at an angle between the joists to hold up the insulation.

We have also used strips of breather membrane as a sort of netting to hold the shoite in place.

Still an awful job though.
