Hi,

getting frustrated!!!
I've been trying to replace the bell box with a new Honeywell AG6 bell box.
I have managed to get it connected up and it works fine when the battery in the panel is connected.
However, when I apply mains power it gives off a continuous beeping sound (I think this is usually an indication there is a battery issue or a more general power issue).

On checking I find that when mains power is applied it is blowing the internal fuse but this doesn't happen when the bell box is disconnected.
this leads me to assume that either
1. the bell box is faulty .... or
2. There is an issue with the way I've wired the bell box (i've looked in the forums and they give a different connection than the manual!)

I'm not sure what to do with the blue cable from the panel as the box only requires 5 cables!

Any suggestions as any help would be very much appreciated.

For info I have wired the box as below

Panel Box colour
B (bell -) SW- WHITE
D (bell +) V+ RED
A (scb -) V- BLACK
T ((scb-) R- YELLOW
Strobe- ST GREEN
Strobe+ ??? BLUE

Wiring looks ok .... Are you sure the main battery in the control panel is not faulty making the transformer overheat ? How old is the battery. .?

Thanks SparkyMarka - the battery is brand new

No, as far as I can see the resistor is not burnt - is your line of thinking that it is a power surge when the main power feed is switched on and therefore it is blowing the internal fuse?

I don't know I hadn't thought of testing that option. Will have a go tomorrow and let you know

Hey Sparkymarka.
Thanks for your help but I have given up on it. I decided the time and effort wasn't worth it as a new panel is only around £40 and the Optima panel is an old one anyway so I've bought a new Veritas8.
I have connected it all up and it seems to be working OK - a few minor things to sort out and I've got to mount the bell box outside but hopefully that won't cause any issues.

Thanks again

Trevor

Update ....
New panel now installed and working fine - must have been a fault on the old Optima panel
Should have bought a new one to start with and saved all the anguish!

The first alarm I ever fitted was a good olde optima in my nannas house. 20 years on its still working, every time I suggest upgrading I get laughed at
