Installing RCD protected sockets...

Care here...

When you install RCD protected sockets, beware that they tend to run warm to the touch, even though nothing is plugged in to them!

This is because of their internal sensor mechanism, which draws a small amount of power to operate.

To avoid this, I always wire them through a 13amp fused connection unit, so that when socket is not in use, I can turn off the fused connection unit to de-energise the socket, and save that "warm to touch" feeling.

so if i put them around my house i wouldn't need central heating ?

The inclusion of the fused connection unit in the circuit supplying a RCD socket
also satisfies the requirements of BS7671:2001, regarding Insulation Testing, where
any RCD socket shall be isolated from the main circuit, by suitable means, before
Insulation Testing is carried out - simply turn off the FCU, and slide the Fuse out!
