Hi. I'm mid bathroom renovation. We are tiling onto external walls. The bath and shower will be in these walls so I've opted for and purchased 10mm insulated tile backers (no more ply, by STS). I don't want to batten the walls out as I will lose valuable space. Has anyone used PU foam adhesive with some mechanical fixings for this set up, or do I need to use tile adhesive? I also need to work out what plugs to use for the mechanical fixings, as the blocks are seriously fragile! Any advice is appreciated. Tia

Lots of thermalite specific plugs available, fixing foam works well combined with mechanical fixings.

Thank you. Will use those plugs. I can't find advice for PU foam with these boards. There was one vid I saw where they used it in combo with tile adhesive, but they didn't discuss it. So my plan then...

Prep wall with SBR (not sure I need this step)
Offer board up, drill 12 holes per board though to wall
Put plugs in wall
Apply foam to board and stick to wall, ensuring there is some where the holes are
Once set apply screws with 35mm washers.
Done.

Hi Tommy, I'm about to do an identical job fixing abacus boards to a thermalite wall, did you go with your plan and if so how did it go? It sounds like the easiest option but I'm concerned that I should be using an adheisive bed for more solid fixing.

Cheers
