This might sound completely stupid, but is it possible to install those silver beads used in cavity wall insulation behind plasterboard?

I’m really put off from CWI, but I would like my house to be warmer in winter and not lose 1oC an hour like it currently does when the heating is turned off.

So it got me thinking, if I could determine where the studs and noggins are, could I drill a hole, gravity feed the silver beads in, patch up then paint.

In my mind, this is a perfect solution. Avoids CWI.

Okay drilling things in the future would be fun as it’ll come out but only that stud and noggin area.

Seems a simple way, which means this is probably a massive no no.

Thanks!

Do you have a house with masonry cavity walls, or a timber framed?

It’s masonry, it’s a 2000 build house but I know it doesn’t have CWI which I thought was standard around that time

Insulation in the cavity is not mandatory, you just need to achieve certain levels of insulation, there are various methods (or were in 2000) for new builds of showing compliance, SAP calcs for example where you can tweak the design by "trading off" by improving one element and decreasing another.

Assuming you have masonry walls and dot and dab plasterboard (which wont have timber noggins as you say), you'll end up with lots of voids, which will then mean lots of cold spots from the voids and also from the adhesive dots, which in turn leads to high risk of condensation spotting.

Than that does not account for the beads falling out from every gap you around the wall and services

I was shocked to discover that my previous house, built in 2002, only had a foil sheet in the cavity. Why was insulation so bad as recently as 2000?

Bet it was a Barratt house? The insulation in question will probably be Alreflex 2L2.

I don’t have dot and dab plasterboard, possibly in the kitchen I do though.

Sorry when I meant masonry I mean, outer brick, cavity, block, stud then plasterboard
