I am trying to understand whether it is possible for us to add insulation over the top of our existing ceiling and walls (look like a garden shed siding effect) without having to remove the current covering. We don't mind losing the space and really need to get it done as it only has polystyrene between the rafters (room is in the attic) but I can see gaps all over the place, including to the outside in parts and it is useless at keeping the heat in.

Could we just put the boarding over the top, or would we need to start from scratch? Currenrtly trying to work out if we can do this ourselves or if it will be too much work.

Any ideas much appreciated.

my apologies if my post was a little confusing...

basically, do i have to remove an existing ceiling in order to add insulation, or could we just place the insulation on the tongue and groove currently in place and then plaster over (if using rigid board insulation)?

Does that make more sense?

You can plasterboard over timber ceiling but it's better removed, you can then add insulation on top in the loft/attic.
