Integral garage - Utility area

Can someone advise please, I have looked through the forum but can't find a good answer,

I have an integral garage and a fire door from the kitchen into the garage, which steps down to a concrete floor about 6 inch drop.

We are using part of the garage as a utility area, washing machine etc. So my plan is to build a wall across the garage probably breeze block, and raise the floor to the same as the kitchen, my neighbour has done something similar but used a stud wall and joists and laid chipboard across to make the floor height.

Anybody got ideas to the best way of doing it, I thought about filling the space with concrete to bring the floor level up but have no idea how or the correct way to it.

Ideas or suggetstions appreciated.

i think its a building regs thing says you cant.

idea being if petrol leaks it cant come into the house

I thought of putting up a breeze block wall to seperate the utility part off, so actually making the garage a third smaller, but I guess I am then creating another room and building regs will scupper that plan.

If only life was simple.

I recon Breezer is right bu it doesn`t cost to ask @ building control at councl office......and a sketch plan is sometimes adequate

you might need planning permission if your garage wont take a standard car size after the works

you will need building regulations to convet the back of the garage to a utility room and the conversion will have to meet those standards

The garage will definatley not take a standard car if I do it, only just takes one now! Think my easiest and cheapest option is just leave things as they are and use the washing machine in the garage. Maybe a job for the future.
