I posted a suggestion that CORGI registered engineers might want to for a discussion group for interchange of information. With regional boiler preferences engineers working on a specific boiler might be willing to help others not familiar with same make in another part of the country.

I repair a lot of Vokera boilers. While not claiming to be know it all, I am quite comfortable when a Vokera fault comes my way

Pervious post on above was lost . Perhaps I had written or said something that was unbecoming

It's all very well posting information for the benefit of people in other parts of the country, trouble is, anyone anywhere can read it, including the bloke 6 doors down the street from you.

Info would be interchanged via email one to one. Each person participating would know who did what so would know who to write to.

I think any form of idea and suggestion swapping would be a good idea provided it could be carried out on a closed forum.

Servicing notes, boilers common faults etc could be a benifit to all.

You guys have my email address. Feel free to email me.

Intention is to interchange info via email with intention of assisting fellow gas engineer.

In the past I have requested CORGI number before I send out sensitive information

It would be useful. In principle it would be like the members' only section of the IOP site where you have to log in with an ID to be able to read. Didn't someone just open another site which has a trade-only section?

THIS site is the least likely to host it! Maybe Plumbing Pages? Though the "Talk" section there, used mainly by plumbers generally, is one of the most abused.

I think this is a great idea.... I do agree that it should be a "closed" forum, I definately give it the thumbs up...

Danny I need to check a couple of points regarding security and means of password access etc but give me a day or so and I'll email you direct.

A thought for you please. As you say it must be limited to CORGI (and if including oil OFTEC, now that I am awaiting registration papers!) How do we check? Preferably a foolproof way.

If you want to keep it just Corgi, then the best way would be to ask for the Corgi card serial No, your corgi No is on show for anyone, so anyone could use the number, but your serial No is only on your card, you can check the Corgi website to verify, it would take a bit of time, but if it kept out non Corgi it would be worth it

It might be worth approaching Corgi, I have often wondered why they do not have a Corgi discussion forum, you have to enter your Corgi No and serial No to gain access to the site so they already have the security set up, they would then just need to design a discussion forum on the site, we pay enough money to them, it would be a way of us feeling we are getting something for our money

Billy bob the security on the corgi site is a big fat ZERO.

When you fill in any CORGI supplied form it asks for registration number AND card serial number to be entered so any member of the public can have access.

CORGI have been asked before why a secure password cannot be chosen by an installer with out reply.

Also would people be happy with CORGI having control??

Alan

No I suppose we wouldn't, we would not be able to moan about them for a start

I would be happy for CORGI to provide a forum and be the admin for that forum. I would want a couple of installers to be moderators though. I think Corgi should give a little more to us for our money. At the minute all I get for my money is to say that i'm registered and the "Gas Installer" magazine once a month. With the release of their "Worksafe Manager" software (and it's undoubdted software problems) they could find that a Forum subheading for the software would lighten the load on the software technical dept.

Computers.......................it's the way to go!!
