Hello

Looking for any advice on best UK brands of interior paint to use on internal walls - ideally reasonably priced and not in the region of Farrow and Ball prices! Painted 2 years ago using Valspar (can’t remember if classic or premium) but quite a bit of chalking visible on darker walls over last year.

Thanks for any inside knowledge

Others will have their preferences but I get on quite well with Leyland Trade Emulsion, though it's only available in limited colours, Screwfix and the like have it on offer for two 10l tubs every few months (on offer atm by the looks). Fortunately we paint most walls white here. We did use Dulux Easycare in the living room, that went on OK despite some of the negative reviews floating abouth the web.

If you get it mixed at a proper decorators' merchant it can't be tinted to thousands of different colours. I am current using Leyland Trade matt emulsion to go over a customer's walls that I initially painted with Dulux Trade. Bar where chases etc have been run, it has covered in one coat. The walls however were in good condition and the colour was the same (Gardenia).

I often use Leyland Trade over new lining paper. It is about 20-25% cheaper than Dulux Trade (which in turn is about the same percentage cheaper than F&B). If I have to change colours significantly, I stick with Dulux Trade. The paint might cost more but the paint is cheap relative to my labour costs. Little point in saving £20 on paint if I need to spend an extra day applying a third coat at £200 per day.
