Hi all. I have just removed a light switch at the top of the stairs on the landing, controlling the landing light to decorate behind it.

On screwing it back in, the light is working intermittently. I have checked the connections to the switch, and there are two red wires, one of which isn’t connected.

I assume this is the issue, however, why is it still working on and off if this isn’t connected?

The switch at the bottom of the stairs also controls this upstairs light, is this safe to keep on for now until this issue is fixed?

Many thanks, Paul

Yes.

Because then it is the black wire's turn to carry the electricity - even though you did not mention it.

Reconnect the red wire and it will be fixed and safe.
