Hello experts
Old cranky house and looking at changing internal doors - I think the current doors are B&Q type solid pine so have been trimmed quite a lot to fit.
Looking at oak doors which say "solid core" so not the paper type (so cutting off bottom, removing some core, and gluing back in isn't possible).
eg https://deantawood.co.uk/products/internal-doors/oak-doors/ely-prefinished-interior-oak-door/
Says 32mm can be trimmed, so 16mm each edge/top/bottom.
But I need to trim a couple of doors 50-55mm in height so a little screwed! What happens with a solid core door if you exceed it? Is it just cosmetic?
One in width I need to trim 38mm - and that I think is more problematic as the edges will be seen and I guess too much would weaken the hinge mountings. Only option I can imagine is getting a smaller door width and adding width to the existing casing.
(Casings are painted, the doors we want in oak finish)
I have emailed the manufacturers but imagine they are tied to what they can say, so asking here for expertise, comments and other options that I'm not aware of
Thank you
