Iron on laminate ....

I am cutting the base boards for our kitchen tomorrow. I am finishing the edges with a router and then I have iron on strips to finish the edges. I have no experience with these strips. Can anyone advise me on how to go about it. I'm planning on using my wifes exspensive iron and definitely don't want to trash it.

should be fine.. tape it in place one end and pull it flat to the other.. then just go for it..
keep a damp cloth handy to press it down firmly once you're run the iron over it ( do it slowly but keep moving )
I made the mistake of trying to push a bit back down with my bare hand and got a fairly decent blister for my trouble..

Thanks coljack. Sorry about the hand. The strip is wider than the board and I am not sure how to trim it. Have you had any experience?

Sharp (very sharp) chisel, followed by very fine glass-paper.

chisel is best option as if has a flat edge to guide on the side..
failing that a sharp stanley knife and take it easy.. ..

Use paper between iron and trim to avoid glue burning on iron, I use a scalpel to trim and finish with fine sand paper.

I use brown paper, between iron & edging strip, keep the iron moving.
When set I use a course file filling away, then fine paper on a block, rubbing away but up the strip.
Very easy job, ensure the ends are stuck properly & dont leave the ends proud, better being scamfered away
