The hole also goes behind the newly plastered area to the right. (had workmen do that part) I wanted to DIY this small part for my first ever time.

I got contradicting information about different ready made plaster repair mixes but is my hole too deep (that's what she said?)?

Thanks guys!

Bonding can be used for deep holes , that looks like an expanding foam might work .Why is it such a mess?
Ok so I use expanding foam up until there is a few mm depth betwwen the wall and the foam? and then just the plaster repair ready mix finish flush to the wall. great thanks!

I guess its messy cos of bad workers. Well tbh they werent down to touch the wall I want to do now.

I too would use expanding foam but I cant work out why the skirting board terminated so short.

I would recommend minimal expanding foam, but spray (and dust) the plaster first with water. It will help the foam to adhere and speed up the curing process.

Apply the foam, cut away the inevitable excess an then rake away enough to enable you to push the plaster/filler in

I got a unknown carpenter to fit new skirting .. was a bad idea.

Guys for plastering, I only need a mask for the sanding part and the mixing part right? I will be using premixed this time so I sohuld be safe til I need to sand right? Thanks.

That looks like it should be lime plaster. That's a wooden round bead on the edge showing the age?

If you use expanding foam, you wont need plaster. I'd stick with something like Toupret Tx110 for the plaster fill after the foam. Please scrap off the old paper first though. TX110 is a powdered based filler than you mix with water. I use cut up old milk (plastic) bottles to mix it in.

The skirting gap is more involved though.

I don't like using powder based filler on wood and prefer 2 pack filler, or at a push, a light weight filler such as toupret RedLite
