I was thinking of installing a few security cameras to my house for a bit of added security.
I have a Linux server that is always on, so my initial thought was to buy a couple of RPis with Pi cameras, place them in an empty camera housing and run "Motion" on them (I have found quite a few tutorials on this on the net).
I can then record directly to my server, whenever movement is detected.
However, I have found lots of off-the-shelf IP cameras that are purpose built and many for around the same price that each Pi would cost me (when you factor in all the bits).
1. What are the major pros/cons of using RPis for this type of project?
2. Are there any advantages of just buying a whole kit and skipping the use of my server altogether?
Thanks
