Is adding additional lights to a room notifiable?

Hi there,

I'm planning to add some spotlights to my kitchen and living room (open plan) to replace existing pendant light fittings.

I plan to do the job myself, adding a junction box at the old light fitting and running wires from that.

I'm a little confused as to whether this work is notifiable. Am I 'adding a new circuit', as defined here?

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply! Really informative and helpful. I may have used the wrong terminology. What I mean are downlights - like these.

Would you recommend one option over the other when it comes to junction boxes? I don't foresee the need to add any more cables to the mix once I've fitted the lights.

Thanks again

It's just that I don't like them and all the holes in the ceiling.
It is, of course, up to you. It's your house.

Not really. It's just that if you are going to make it inaccessible you have to use the second (or another make equivalent).

If it is just going to be above the ceiling and accessible through one of the holes, (which it will be, otherwise you wouldn't be able to fit it without lifting boards above) then you can use either.
The first has screw terminals, the second push-in.
