Hi, i have been reading around to try and find some things to check for before i call someone. Tried a few things but no luck.

We have a Greenstar 12i system which appears to be dead apart from having the mains indicator light on. It is controlled by a digistat+ rf thermostat which appears ok as it responds to changes in temperature settings. ie, if i turn the thermostat up the green 'heating on' light turns on, and goes off when turned down. No matter what i try, CH on HW off, Both on, HW on CH off, the boiler just does not fire. Makes no noise at all. When turning the boiler off and then on the lights on the front light up for a second and all go off apart from the mains indicator.

I know it's hard to diagnose these things without seeing first hand but are there any basic things i should be looking for before i call someone in?

It does sound as if the boiler has failed.

I expect you will have to get an engineer to it.

It might well be the PCB and if so a fixed price repair from BG may be better value.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Now i feel a little silly but for some reason the boiler just started up again out of the blue last night!? I only realised when i felt a bit warm and noticed the radiators had come on. Problem is i'm scared to turn it off to see if it will come on again when requested. One thing i did notice is that in the airing cupboard is a little box with a silver switch which can switch between W, M and H. It had been on W, but it has switched to H when it came on. Could that box cause such a problem? I'm guessing it stands for Water, manual and Heat?

Water, MID, and heat. Depending on demand the port valve moves to the corresponding position. It may have been stuck or your room stat not turned up. If your still worried call out a heating engineer.
