OK..............I've moved into my new house and am getting a fire fitted next week. To help the fitter, I decided to know our the chimney breast a little more. Anyway, stupidly I knocked out a few bricks that were resting on the wooden plinth in the chimney breast; the plinth above the hole that supports the wall. I only knocked out 3 bricks but I'm really worried now as part of the chimney breast wall is "floating" and not resting on anything.

Can you offer any advice? Should I just put some cement between the wooden plinth and the bricks?

I would be more concerned about having a 'wooden plinth' in the fire place.

I would caution about putting some cement between the bricks. Mortar yes, but not cement.

The best advice would seem to be ........ put the bricks back in

The bricks are all chopped in half and stuff now. The fire fitter is coming on Monday next week. Should I just leave it for him to look at and rectify?

let him have a look .....but 3 bricks in a row can`t do much harm ....
