is my underfloor heating pump dead?

I have a Grundfos type UPS 25-50 130 p/n 59425401 on my underfloor heating manifold.

Recently I have been having problems with my underfloor heating. The pump sounded as though it was worked but seemed to be getting very hot. I opened the screw on the front to check for air and make sure it was spinning properly. To my surprise, water started to gush out which does not usually happen.

When I isolated the pump and opened the screw fully to have a better look, I have noticed that there is a pin hole in the centre of the surface facing you which is normally under the screw. Water is squirting out from this hole when the pump is on, hence the water gushing out.

I am presuming that this should not be like this and somehow the hole has been blown out?

Can someone confirm this - for my peace of mind - before I have a new pump installed? What kind of a price am I looking at for the actual pump?

Finally, the isolating screw at the bottom of the pump has seized up. I cannot turn it and it is now in the closed position. Any suggestions on how I can get this screw turning again or do I need to change that part as well?

Oh dear sounds like a mudle, if the bottom valve is shut, then you will not circulate water around the system, a UPS 25/50 will cost just shy of £100, if the pump valve can't be freed it will also need changing (about £7-00)
priority should be the jammed valve, then check the Thermostatic Mixing Valve for correct operation and any motorised valve before deciding that the pump is shot ;)

I think Boilerman has offered some good advice!

If you want to have a look at a range of pumps visit www.heatweb.com, we specialise in multi-fuel heating systems including underfloor heating, and although we're biased that our products and services are best, our website has loads of tools and fact-sheets that offer impartial advice.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

I'm quite surprised DPS now feel the need to advertise in this manner.

Surely a better recommendtion would be the grundfos website.

Why not, the Grundfos website address is http://www.grundfos.com/web/homeuk.nsf - we're always happy to help in any way we can, as I mentioned this is illustrated by our website content - the resource available is really broad and very useful.

Really don't mean to offend - just share our experience and knowledge!

Your input and expertise in cylinders/stores and buffers will be more than benefficial to this site,in particular the use of your relief to drain(anti boil) valve.

On a side note, who do I need to speak to in order to update my details on your aproved installer page.
