We're buying a new build house and having ivory carpet throughout. Being worried about the light colour of the carpet, we thought we'd maybe get some protection and have been recommended scotchguard and given a quote of around £400 to do a 3 bed, 3 story house.

Does anyone have any opinions on carpet protection, scotchguard or the price?

Thanks

Yes, Scotchguard was banned a couple of years ago, it's carcinogenic.

there is a reformulated version about now, our sofa is scotchgaurded and it definitely makes the covers easier to clean.

I guess I'm using SG as a synonym for any carpet protection - like Hoover for a vacuum I suppose. I assume that these people are using something else.

Hi

I had pale pink carpet downstairs and paid to have it professionally cleaned and scotchguarded a few years ago. It did come up really clean but got dirty again very quickly, (within 6 months) so for me it wasn't worth having it done.

However, I don't remember it being as expensive as you quote, so maybe there are different types of protection. Also we do wear shoes in the house on occasion and theres the dog, so maybe if you have a hard and fast rule about no shoes it would last longer.

Another alternative may be to buy a carpet cleaner and just use it when you need to. The carpet is left only slightly damp and soon dries.

Don't know if you've decided on the carpet yet, but you can get some thats supposed to be stain resistant, and even curry comes off!

scotchgaurd won't actually stop your carpets/upholstry getting dirty it just makes it easier to clean and less likely to stain
