Is the outer boiler casing necessary?

We are having a new boiler fitted. It is apparent that when the plumber attaches the outer casing, it is not going to fit into the cupboard properly. Is the outer casing necessary or is it cosmetic?

Most new boilers use the case as the combustion chamber seal and is absolutely essential

it is necessary, why did he not measure the cupboard and purchase a boiler that would fit

even if it did fit, how about some service clearance?? better buy your installer a tape measure

If the size is that critical, I doubt that the clearance specified by the manufacturer will be achieved.
You are likely to come to regret this sooner rather than later.
Just out of curiosity, is it a heatline or ravenheat?

If it was a Biasi Band A then that is one of the few boilers that the outer case is not a gas tight assembly.

It could still be argued that it is needed as protection in case of an internal explosion.

I installed a Biasi for a Russian priest and before I had fitted the outer case his "workers" threw the casing away!

as a boiler comes with a casing as part of the design it MUST be fitted, we are not allowed to compromise anything, even if it is only the outer casing and not a gas seal, think about all the electrics that will probably be able to be touched by someone going into the cupboard.
