Is there a difference between a bonfire and incinerator use?

We are doing a renovation and we are burning wood and garden waste in an incinerator

Neighbour has complained to the council. However looking on the council's website they only have a problem with bonfires.

Can I ask whether incinerator use and a bonfire are seen as the same thing?

The council left me with a nice note threatening me with a £20K fine.

Incinerators have forced air fed to the fire resulting in the burn being much hotter and generally the smoke / fumes are "cleaner" than those from a burning / smouldering heap of materials.

The air may be forced by the thermal updraft in the chimney of the incinerator.

Yeah it's not terminology, it's whether it's causing a nuisance, which is a legal term. I'd imagine it is causing a nuisance as even when someone on the street behind lights up their wood burner (clean dry wood) the whole area stinks due to it being solid fuel.
Garden waste and construction wood, especially if it's damp and or treated will be a much bigger stink and therefore likely to be a nuisance.
The council has powers to enforce that.
I'd recommend (for your own health apart from anything else) to use the local recycling centre as wood and garden waste are both recyclable.
Cheers, John

You are creating what's known as a statutory nuisance .
The council can and will take you to court if necessary.
Look at recycling options.
I know this crap because my dad loved a garden fire (3 acre garden).
New neighbours complained to council dad took no notice of letter .
Despite fact he was in his 80s and had dementia council pushed on with court action.
Months of hassle to sort.
