Is there a 'fake' parquet available?

Have seen some parquet flooring in a house and it looks exactly the same finish as a laminate floor (uniform colours over the entire space, glossy finish and feels like laminate underfoot). Is there a cheaper parquet available that has a softwood base and a 'laminate'/MDF type top rather than real wood? Just curious......
