Is this a bad time of the year to hire a roofer?

I'm struggling to get Someone to quote for a job. So I'm thinking of covering up the walls and waiting until spring. So thought I'd ask if that's a mistake? Cheers.

I think everyone is struggling to find good people to do work, anyone worth their salt is booked up, I've just booked the car in for some investigative work (probably an hour and a half), 17 September is the earliest they can do and it's taken about two weeks for them to consider what was needed. They came highly recommended but we shall see .....

It's difficult to answer on the info you've provided? Covering up walls suggests you have some leaks, which generally only get worse the longer you leave them.

Sorry it's a roof for an extension. It's close to the height where scaffolding is needed.
While it would be great to get the roof on I'd rather have it low than gutter height in the winter if it can't be done quickly and well.
