Hi all,
I'm a newbie here, and I was wondering if I could get your opinions on this idea.
I'm currently living in a 130-year-old property, which has an old slate roof that needs replacing eventually (still the original according to the survey). Anyway, is it possible that when we get the new roof done, it could be made a bit higher so that the loft space could be converted into a bedroom - there's currently about 5-6ft of headroom. The issue that I have is that there is a chimney located within the roof and would this cause an issue if the roof height was raised - the difference between the height of the roof and the top of the chimney before the chimnet pots is about 2ft. There is definitly space for the new staircase, as it will sit above the current staircase. I understand that I should get the chimney looked at as well considering the house's age, but do you think this would be a do-able project on the whole??
