Had a search not found similar question.
Removed upvc trim ahead of doing a window and found the trim was covering the original panel. It look like It might be nasty material?

If I use a filtered face mask can I carry on removing the rest?

Thanks,

It’s damaged and i can’t see how the loft was getting ventilation previously as it sealed the overhang against the wall.

I was more concerned about if it was the nasty asbestos.

So it’s all coming down one way or another and being replaced by upvc board with continuous vent grill.

Looks like asbestos also to me.
So is this your soffit. Mine was the same 60s house, it was wooden fascia with a slot in the bottom and the asbestos soffit sat on the top row of bricks and slotted in the fascia. I think there were battens nailed to the ends of the rafters that pressed down on the soffit

You can remove and bag yourself. Just follow good guidelines...
