Hi guys

Just looking at the state of my chimney - some prior work has been done - but noticing some of the mortar missing.

Is this at danger of collapsing with high winds?

And is the cement (?) sheet at the top of it likely an asbestos sheet or something else possibly? Unfamiliar with chimney's in general.

Thanks all!!

The "sheet" will be natural slate so perfectly ok and other than somebody attempting to point it with a spoon it is just looking untidy and not structurally at risk of falling. I would have it repointed by a reputable or recommended roofer.

thanks

@DAZB is it sometimes replaced with an asbestos sheet instead?

The plane of the sheet isn't straight - but perhaps that's the trait of a slate stone?

thank you

It could be an asbestos type panel but it was more common to use slate which will have natural features and was not a factory cut material so a wavy edge is quite normal.
