Is this ok for doing the corner ?

They have also left some of the old stuff around the door and windows and gonna render over it.

whats everyone think?

That's a stop bead you need a standard angle bead. Looks like they have scratched it with a tiling trowel !! Get yourself over to plasterers forum.

So im assuming the top layer wont stick?
 
Corner bead is a mesh like structure to allow the render/plaster to form around it and get a good grip.
With that being smooth faced the render/plaster will probably crack and fall off as the metal expands and contracts when the room heats up.
(Yes, metal expands even when it has been buried in a wall).
Proper corner beading is quite inexpensive and worth getting if you want to do the job properly.
