Hi there, what a great find your site is!!

I have just purchase these blocks, are they parquet?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....8888&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_ReBay_Pr2_PcY_BID_IT

I got a sample before buying and they look to be in top notch condition - just like in the picture.

I have been reading the various posts on laying these ie re bitumen, letting them get used to the room etc and these have been a great help. However, you will be glad to hear is a joiner (not me!) laying these.

After spending loads of time and effort taking our floorboards back they are just too drafty in our old house (even if they do look great).

What 'underlay' is best for these parquet (?) blocks bearing in mind they will be going onto wooden floors?

thanks for the help - wish I had found this site 2 years ago when we were starting our renovations!!!

There's no need to get abusive. Don't tell me you tried to say query, but you can't ******** spell

don't split hairs, boys :D :D

Hi Marie

The parquet blocks look good and 50 sq m for £50 is a bargin, so get your bet in.

To install this mosaic you need a level surface, directly onto floorboards is not recommended (floorboards might move, be cupped etc). Install a sheet materials first, depending on the levelness of your floorboards it could be thin chipboard or if needed thicker plywood.

It says there is only a small amount of bitumen left. Give it a trial run and glue one or two blocks on the sheetmaterial. If the adhesive bonds well after say 8 hours then you've saved yourself a lot of time trying to remove the bitumen further.

Use proper parquet adhesive like Stycobond B92 from F.Ball or Lecoll5500.

If you don't want to refinish the blocks your fitter has to be careful with spillage of adhesive.

P.S. ukwoody, you make me blush ;)

I'm a she

:D :D

(we do try to have a 'free' weekend sometimes, but 9 out of 10 times that doesn't work and we end up either in our shop or on this forum, or both :( )

thanks for your help everyone!

got the flooring, £300 for 75 sq m which I think is a good deal. Joiner has been in and completed a hallway and it looks great!

glad to say floor stuck without us having to take the bitumen off!

no points for guessing what I will be up to this weekend..... yep joiner back on Sunday so I will be sanding any rough edges off. never mind - only the livingroom and 3 bedrooms and 2 landings to go - YUK

thanks again for the help!
