If the walls are sloping from floor level the only option I see really is one long room with a shower room at one end. And even then you'll struggle to get the height on the shower head. Plus you must make sure there is escape in case of fire - being over a garage!

Get a piece of paper and a pencil and a rubber. Draw the outline. Look at how your stairs are constructed. With this sort of flat the stairs will run down the side of the garage. so you lose space here*. So away you go try different layouts and pace them out in your own house until you get to a decision.
* try running them around the corner of the garage so they enter the flat in the centre, this will give you two sections to it, could be interesting!

Correct fire rating for the garage ceiling and protected staircase/second means of escape before anything else !

I think it should be doable providing not too much space is lost due to the pitch of the roof. I'm just doing a project at the moment which will include a self contained studio appartment. The space is approx 8m x 3.9m. The walls are up and so far looks to be a good size. There is room for a descent size separate kitchen, large built in wardrobes with reasonable storage, a shower room and still a good size main room. Worth thinking about beds though. I have gone for a wall bed. In the day it is a dining table and then the bed folds out of the wall and the table dissapears under it. They are not cheap but means you get to make the most of the space and I definitely think it would be too cramped if the beds were out all the time.

Ps, just as a note. I have seen a studio fitted into the space of a single garage of a new build before. Was very tight but had enough room for a bedroom, en suite and tiny kitchenette.

Good luck,
Greg

How much headroom did you get under your roof slope?

Mine is downstairs so no head room issues.

Completely different to the OPs situation then. Still, he's happy now he's been told what he wanted to hear.

Internal space can be saved if you can have an external staircase.

There are plenty of studio apartments of 24 m2 or less

This assumes you have full headroom so either a 2-storey building plus loft or a 2-storey with flattish roof.

However if the accommodation is self-contained then planning and council tax will be interested in the creation of a separate dwelling, and 2 storeys is much more likely to attract neighbour attention.

Plenty of room for a bed, a 'gazunder' under the bed, and a mini-cooker for a warming a pan of beans. Overhead shower. Just need to find some way of waterproofing the bed from the shower spray.

You've cracked it Owain. I particularly like the innovative use of space by putting things under the bed.

Or you can put the bath under the bed and the basin in a drawer
