The sidewall looks quite poor, if I got pulled over would I be fined? Should I replace it or leave it for a bit? It has good thread etc.

My guess is it’s either very bad scuff damage or, as there are cracks as well, heat damage due to it being run flat or badly under inflated. May well be an MOT failure which means if you get stopped it could be illegal. Either way it’s not worth the risk to your licence or more importantly, your life; replace it ASAP. ;)

My wifes car passed an MOT with a tyre even worse than that.

However a replacement is called for soonest, its just not worth the risk of a blowout on the motorway.

The MOT is not strict enough. I am constantly sorting out MOT issues on my car even though it was a newish MOT. Mine passed with a severely damaged CV boot but thats been sorted now.

My previous owner just seemed to only fix the car at MOT time, and even then ignore advisories. I get all the advisories done unless its something really quite pathetic and none safety related.

Going to get the trye sorted this afternoon, it is a 13 year old car so I don't know what to do, get a decent pair or a cheap one? I am thinking of buying a newer Fiesta of similar spec to replace this, so my wheels could always be transfered over.

hi mate, dont worry about it- all michelins crack prematurely, any1 in the industry will tell you this. if tread is good over central three quarters, no blebs or structural damage to carcass, you should be good. whilst it looks scruffy now- it doesnt tend to get any worse without some help. only if the integrity of the tyre looks compromised will it fail mot or change

kind regards

tommy

I will use it for the spare as my spare is not good. It is 8 years old and it is recomended that tyres are changed after 6 years, just don't want to risk it.
