Hi gents,

I am planning on fitting an extractor fan above my shower.
It will probably be a SELV unit fitted at the ceiling as opposed to a mains voltage unit located in-line in the ducting in the loft.

It will be wired into the lighting circuit.

My intention was to have all the wiring in the loft, I did not give thought to an isolator switch until seeing something on this site.

MUST I have an isolator switch?

Surely if the unit needs maintenance, I would be ok switching off the feed to the lighting circuit, as I would if was working on the lighting circuit!

if the fan unit itself is in the bathroom, or can be accessed in the bathroom then the isolator must be in the bathroom.. so you can turn it off to maintain it..

if the fan is in the loft and can only be accessed while in the loft, then the iolator should be near it in the loft.... again so you can isolate it to work on it..
