The new jacuzzi bath a friend is fiitng has asked for an RCD understandably.

In the absence of an RCD in the CU a stand alone RCD is being fitted.
Can this be fitted inside a fitted vanity unit inside the bathroom?

Why can't it be fitted at the origin of the circuit.

You are introducing a cable into a bathroom that is unprotected by a RCD.

Not what I would recommend, even if it is in zone 3. Wet bodies!! need I say more.

No access to the cables due to them being buried therefore the only other alternative would be an RCBO?

RCBO is one option if you can find one suitable for the CU he has

failing that extend the wires with crimps and bring em into a RCD next to the CU (either a RCD FCU or a CU style RCD in a modular box depending on the required power)
