Jammed expansion bottle lid

Hi all,
Fiesta zetec s expansion bottle lid came apart, leaving the inner part jammed tight in the opening.
I have tried leavering it out with a screwdriver and also pliers but can't get enough grip.
Before I damage the bottle, is there any tips for loosening the thing off?
I was thinking possibly pouring hot water on it. Currently the coolant level is right on the main mark so no immediate need to get the bigger off. Any suggestions?

Get a broad screwdriver and use that as a "drift" to tap it around in the opening direction.

I was able to release one using slip joint pliers...that was on a C Max though.
Give us a picture if you can.

Drill a hole in it, screw a self tapping screw into it and use a couple of flat bladed screwdrivers to lever it out.

Take it for a run to get it hot, then try one of the above. A secondhand bottle is about £35 off flea bay so not the end of the world and probably easier in the long run if the inner is stuck.

Hello All,
thanks for the replies about the old expansion bottle cap. I ended up using wd40, boiling water and pliers and a few swear words to finally get the flipping thing out of the expansion bottle.
I bought a shiny brand new cap which works a treat - until now :-z
Back to square one as the new cap has done exactly the same.
Has anyone found a fix for this ? not keem on having a box load of lids to supply the car with.
not sure if i should fit a new expansion bottle.

Are you tightening it up too much? Why does it keep having to be taken off?

Put a little smear of white grease on the cap seal before fitting it.
