JB Weld

It's a bit of a bodge job but if anything is up to it in terms of patching etc then it'd be JB weld - you'll need to have the tank empty and clean the area to be patched first though!

The area in question is along the filler pipe somewhere, I'll run the fuel gauge into the red before trying this, and sand down the area in question. but it says can be used over an already leaking hole and is fuel proof. I don't see emptying the tank will be necessary.

Or jack up that corner of the car... ;)

If it's along the filler pipe, replace the filler pipe. They can be found on fleabay. The problem is the powder coating used on almost everything nowadays. Nothing seems to touch it, until it gets wet under a car, then rust gets under and works its magic. I coated the replacement with epoxy mastic before fitting. amazing stuff. You could also use POR15.

Still haven't got round to dealing with this

Would JB weld or equivalent be any good for this. Certainly seems like it would having read the blurb.
 For safety reasons and also the cost of fuel replace the tank, albeit with a second-hand one. You used to be able to buy from accessory shops a product called "PetroPatch" purposely made for the job.

I've tried repairing with fibreglass and with rubbery repair stuff.

I wouldn't do it again.

A replacement tank for a common car is available through your local motor factors (doesn't have to be from the car manufacturer)

I painted the outside of mine with preservative primer and non-drip black gloss before fitting, to prevent a recurrence. Maker's paint finish is pathetic, and dirt and moisture lodges on welds and seams.

The consequences of a petrol fire are unthinkable.
