Hello Dawg and welcome. Sounds like you're asking too late with too little information. How have you joined the wood already, what was the purpous of the joint.

You could always try paint.

Sorry, for not giving more info. I am replacing the side of a bench which is 18 1/2" in width. I used wood glue on 2 pieces of 1x10 and clamped it together for 24hrs,will be staining the wood with a lighter color stain. I am trying to hide the seam if possible.

phew, bit late now, but give it all a really good sanding over (if poss with a belt sander first). Getboth boards really smooth and level with each other. You can then dust off, and rub over with white spoirit, which will help remove any natural grease and muck. If you're really lucky you will barely see the join. then stain over it.

Thanks for all your help, its really appreciated. Any hints for the future on how to join 2 pieces of wood together without the seam showing???

as in the post on workbenches..a biscuit machine will keep the pieces even, and then a strong clamp to hold the pieces together whilst the glue dries..sanding should then hide the join.
