joining worktop

i need to join two kitchen worktops in shape of an L
do i need to cut them at join as the templates come with the curve on the end or can i just join two straight edges together?

masons mitre removes the profiled front edge
the other choice is aluminium joining strips like these

you will need to secure the worktops together underneath with battons or brackets unless you cut slots in the profiles for worktop bolts to fit into
