Hello all,

This is my situation now. The pics are from my extension flat roof ceiling. I drilled these holes for the electric wiring not in the right place. They are not in the centre of the joists and one of the holes is also pretty big (last pic).
My question is…
How do I fix this?? / Do I need to rectify this?
Given that the joists are supporting only the flat roof of the extension and nothing else.
I have read about sistering, metal plates, epoxy wood filler…

My biggest concern is if the building control will approve this.

Thanks!

J

The size of hole, compared to the timber, means they will make almost no difference to the strength. I would not worry about it..

I don’t know if it is an issue but the guidance on safe zones shows cables should go through holes 50mm from edge of joist.

I thought the 50mm was a safe zone stipulation….as it’s the same in walls.

Maybe a pro electrician might provide some insight.

Have drilled more holes on new build than I care to think about.
N H B C standard Is center line of joist between 0.25 and 0.4 X span 100mm between holes.

Joists are oversized so no structural issues. I think the 50mm safe zone is negated if the circuit is RCD protected.
