joist/rafter hangers directly onto masonary?

heya,
Im building a lean to garage roof from gable end of my house to party wall with parapet wall arrangement.
im wondering if i need wallplates @ all as neither wallplate will actually sit ON a wall.
So my question is...can i just use galvenised hangers on their own??
