What span can 50 x 225 C16 timber take.
Appears my engineer and building control disagree.
Hoping to span 4.4m
Some disagreement on version 2 and 3????

Depends on the load on the joists and centres..

But given a standard domestic floor at 400c/c then sure it can do 4.4m so long as no (non stud) partition loading and boarding is fixed down pretty well..

Either way its an arguement between your engineer and BC..

IIRC, if you (or your SE) actually do the calculation rather than rely on the span tables then you can get the joists to span even further

but building control are either reading some other table or just don't know.
architect and SE say it can, BC say it can't.... who pass the plans?

Then you ask the BCO to cite his reference, or you cite your span table reference and require an explanation as to why he is disagreeing with published tables.

If your floor doesn't exceed 0.5kN/m² it will do about 4.6m at 400c/c. Otherwise you could go to C24 which will do up to about 4.5m. As the others have said that is subject to other loads - i.e. partitions etc.
