juddering clutch

Im borrowing a transit at the moment, with a possible view to buying it. The clutch judders when letting it out in first gear or when reversing. what would possibly be causing this and is it a simple job for a mechanic or is it likely to be the clutch on theway out?

if it's a 'newer' (after 2001) one , it's probably the dual mass clutch on it's way out

Sometimes engine mounting rubbers can soften or break up, allowing the engine to jump around under the bonnet more than it should as the clutch takes up the drive. Not strictly clutch judder, but it feels about the same

btw thermo, if you're anywhere near Crawley i know a transit expert who's sensibly priced and only touches transits.

thanks for your help guys. My mechanic had a quick look and thinks its the clutch, so im going to steer clear of that one, as its not cheap!

what sort of transit was it as only a few had the dual mass clutches fitted if you post the reg up i can check ford etis for build date engine size ect
