Dear All,
We have downstairs (hallway, sitting and dinning room) installed 10y ago oiled Karhs engineering flooring (15mm with dark stained oak finish). We very carefully looked after it and maintained it regularly (oiled). It was our pride and joy.
Recently we have redone our kitchen and the builder laid some carpet protector over the wooden floor in the hallway and the rooms where he needed access.
When he lifted them, he ripped of the oil film which formed over the years on the floor and completely ruined the look of the wooden floor. I'm gutted. It is beyond "normal repair" with a simple oiling.
I have asked for a quote from a local specialist company and they have recommended sanding back all rooms, re-staining and oiling. They clearly knew what they were talking but I was wondering is there is a less damaging option than taking back 1 - 1.5mm from a 3mm thick surface.
Since only the oil film is damaged, I was wondering if they could not just "sand" back with some rubber (buffing) pads and take off everywhere only the oil film but not the wood ?
I've tried to research a bit on the internet but couldn't find anything.
I would appreciate this forums wisdom on the matter.
Thank you.
