keeping insulation away from downlights

Hi,

I'm about to put 6 or 7 LV downlights in a ceiling. I'm aware that the insulation in the roof space above needs to be kept away from the lights. Does anybody know of any proprietary 'box' type structure that exists that can fit over each of the lights so the insulation can then be placed over this. I dont fancy making up my own.

FFS! buy some MDF and make a little box to go round each light, or you'll be spending £70 on fire hoods! WHICH YOU DONT NEED unless we are in a garage or a flat here!

Or you can use 1/2inch plasterboard, easy to cut and cheap. Just make up little boxes. Stick it together with nonails or gripfill

thanks for the replies. I'll go for the plasterboard and no-nails. I just thought there might have been a cheap and cheerful ready-made solution but i spose it wont take a great deal of time to knock 'em together.

went to change a fitting in a house and the owner had placed terracotta pots over each light it was even vented to let the heat escape though practical not flame proof it kept the insulation though, its up to you. If it was my house id fit a firehood check on E-Bay first.
